Hello, hello! I'm new to the world of amaryllis growing- I'm fond of plants and received a bulblet cut from a relative's Amaryllis a few months ago to try and grow. It's very small (cut too early and in the wrong season and she just gave it to me to see what happens :p) but trying its best and making new leaves. However, lately I noticed something a little concerning- the outer layer of the bulb had several small orange-red dots and one larger patch, along with irregular bumps and lumps on the surface. All the pictures I could find online of smaller ones near mine's size had smooth, almost shiny green or white bulbs- not the wrinkled, lumpy mess mine appeared to be.

I would suspect the living conditions caused the plant to use up its stores to make new leaves without being able to replenish them, and hence the bulb withering, but the leaves seem healthy and green, and it's currently under a dedicated grow light indoors (I'm afraid there's too many hazards for plants here to be moved outdoors) in what I thought was appropriate fast-draining soil, and even when I first repotted it into the new mix in a clay pot it seemed to have grown some new roots? Anyway, I decided to monitor the plant for a few days- and this morning when I checked, the spots seemed to have grown in size/number a bit, and the top of the bulb/bottom of the neck had a dry shriveled brown portion peeling back- which seemed to somewhat match the description of Amaryllis bulb scales from where previous leaves had been grown and shed, natural as the plant gets bigger. But coupled with the suspicious spots, I was worried it might not be so harmless- so, god forgive my curiosity, I poked it to make sure it was at least dry and not the squishy mush of rot. It flaked right off and actually peeled part of the outer layer with the larger spot right off. I wish I had taken a picture of that before touching!

Underneath that layer the bulb seems green and shiny and spotless, just like the pictures. Googling told me that the most common Amaryllis ailment seems to be red blotch- while this doesn't seem quite as fiery red or as large as the pictures, I don't want to wait around any longer! So I'm posting here for help. Most sites say to just destroy the bulb before the disease spreads- but I don't own any other Amaryllis plants anyway and I'm determined to give it my best effort. I'll Amazon Prime 2 day ship my supplies if I need to.

This earlier question http://forums.gardenweb.com/discussions/1747547/possible-red-blotch-on-my-bulbs has a response suggesting it's possible to treat with a copper based fungicide and captan. I'd love recommendations on preferred copper fungicide brands and perhaps a little more detail for a novice like myself. If it turns out to be red blotch, should I cut off the leaves to expose the neck to ensure I remove all the blotch? What about the roots?

Before I do anything, though, I'll get some pictures uploaded later today for some trained eyes to look over and diagnose. I'm afraid I won't have time to sit and document my plant's battle scars for a few hours, but I wanted to get my initial questions posted so if the worst is confirmed I can begin the counter-attack immediately.
