Crape myrtles & naphtaleneacetic acid

What a mouthful, huh?

i came across a tip about using naphtaleneacetic acid for sucker control. Has anybody used it and how?

i am aware of the spray but it costs $40 and I can't justify cost for just a few plants. There's a guy on Etsy selling a little bottle of 99% concentrate for $10 but communication is sluggish. I suspect he caters to pros not home gardeners.

anybody familiar or can offer another sucker control alternative?
