I would guess that it's either overwatering or over fertilization.

I say that based on seeing the plant in nature growing in the hot, dry, hard South Texas landscape in full sun. This potting mix looks AWFULLY water retentive.

Hope someone has better insight.

Hi dbarron, it's likely that overwatering is the cause. Coz I sometimes water frequently and it rains a lot in recent days.

I will let the top soil dry out between waterings.

And am I supposed to remove the distorted leaves or just leave them alone?

Why would you remove them? You're not growing for show and they're not diseased.
