Columns

Impressive House. Those 2 columns look disproportional to me (buckling - height to diameter) as a compression member. Are they in tension, or for uplift, of the cantilever section?

good eye. first, these two columns are loaded in pure compression, with a very stiff floor diaphragm taking 100% of lateral loads back to steel brace frames embedded deeper in the house volume. then, these two columns were specified in a thick wall higher strength stainless steel tube, further reducing their required diameter.
