That must have been nerve-wracking. I hope you don't have a lot of damage. Even though it sounds like the worst damage is a small distance from you, can we be hoping that a stray wind gust carried away your not-so-favorite squirrels?

The news this morning has a lot of photos, info on damage, power outages, the people treated at the hospital, etc. due to your severe weather up there. Isn't it crazy? We get so used to having great watch and warning info from the NWS that it is easy to forget a tornado can spin up out of nowhere suddenly and strike without warning, even on a low-risk day. I'm glad things weren't worse, and I am sure for the people affected, things are plenty bad enough as it is.

At least you got rain, so that part of it is a blessing. Now, hopefully y'all won't get so much more rain that there is prolonged flooding.

Rebecca, I woke up at 5 AM this morning, and saw the tornado warning flashing on my phone (I'm in Claremore). I was surprised, as I don't think anyone was expecting a damaging storm. I hope your house is ok, and I'm sure that was awfully frightening for you. I apparently slept through it all. We got a ton of rain, as evidenced by the water collected in some empty plant trays. They were overflowing. The storm seems to have concentrated around 41st/Memorial area. I haven't heard of damage anywhere else around the city yet, but it's early.

Mary, How lovely that you slept through it all and awakened to find you'd had lovely, lovely rainfall! News6 has some good coverage on their webpage (I didn't look at the other Tulsa area stations to see what they had) but I don't know if they'll update it any more today. Sometimes weekend news coverage is sort of skimpy.

Hopefully everyone up there has enough rain to make landscapes and gardens happy but not so much rain that stuff starts getting sickly and drowning. Flooding becomes the main hazard now with a lot more rain in this week's forecast. I believe there is a slight chance of severe today, but I haven't looked at the convective outlook to see. So, maybe I'll go see what it says.

So, I looked at the Convective Outlook for today and it doesn't look bad. The outflow boundary over southern Oklahoma (finally!) from y'all's storms ought to lead to good thunderstorm development/rainfall for us over the next 24 or so hours. I think the worst probably is over up there in terms of severe since you now have a cooler, more stable air mass.

I meant to add that as far back as Tuesday or Wednesday, Dr. Greg Forbes had given parts of OK a TorCon value of 2/3 for Sunday (which began at midnight) and I knew that, so I am not as surprised as y'all apparently were that a tornado happened---because a Torcon of 2-3 equals a 20-30% chance a tornado will happen within 50 miles (if I am remembering this correctly) of any given point within the area to which that TorCon value was assigned. I am surprised if none of your local forecasters mentioned this as a possibility, albeit a slim one. Here's the map he posted days ago:

If you follow Dr. Forbes on FB, he posts the TorCon maps several days in advance of possible severe weather and then updates them as needed.

Apparently I slept through it, too. I should get some kind of weather alert for my phone, too.

I have a bunch of branches and limbs to clean up, and everything looks pretty bedraggled. But, no damage, thank God. Tornadoes don't normally freak me out, but the aftermath of what could have been is kind of heavy this morning. I got no sleep, of course, so I'm dragging pretty heavily. I'll go out in a bit and start dragging limbs around and re-staking a few peppers. And check the rain gauge.

I need to go out and inspect the yard, but I'm being a baby about putting on real clothes.

Just went out and surveyed. Bunch of branches needed to be dragged together for pickup, and several pepper plants needed to be turned right side up and re-staked. Could have been much worse. On the good side, I brought in several pretty peppers that had been knocked off, plus the rest of the red scallions, and an armful of taragon for drying. My lettuce and beans are popping up too. I munched on a handful of vine ripened cherry tomatoes while I worked. The SS100 has the brown crunchy disease, so I'm guessing I won't have those much longer.

We didn't have any damage here. DH said branches down near Pine and Sheridan. We had some heavy rain before I went to bed, but I don't think we got the wind that happened further south. The area around Promenade mall is without power, and across the street from Promenade, TGIFridays lost a wall.

Just short of 2.5" in the rain gauge. Probably a bit more because it was blowing so much. Didn't rain for that much over an hour, so it was just dumping down.

I feel bad for the businesses at Promenade, missing out on a day of tax-free weekend back to school sales.

1.5" of rain here in Catoosa. I am quite far from the EF2 tornado but somehow all my tomato plants fell over. I probably need more sturdy cages for next year.

I'm glad you're all okay. It could have been worse, you know, especially coming at night (I hate that you cannot see them in the dark) and in a month where tornadoes are not overly common. At least you got rain. We are still waiting. Endlessly waiting--no, not for a tornado. Just waiting for rain. We have thunder and lightning. You'd think that any storm that would give us thunder and lightning right over our house would at least give us some rain.

We get tornado info too many ways---from our NOAA All-Hazards radio with an alert that goes off like a very loud alarm and scares you to death, to phone apps, and phone alerts from our own county's Dispatch center. If there's a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, I think the Dispatch center only sends it on our phone app, but if there is a Tornado Warning, they set off our fire pagers. Each system seems to go off on its own timing, so you don't get them all at the same second---they keep going off for a while, which I guess is good, because it keeps you from falling back asleep until the danger has has time to clear the area.

We also have a dog alarm feature who sleeps on the floor beside Tim. With every loud crash-bang of thunder, Jet thinks we are under attack, awakes barking and runs around the bedroom barking back at the thunder. This is a relatively recent development as he has aged. When he was younger, thunder didn't set him off that way.
