A standard (aka, "tree rose")? You'll have to leave it in the pot and move it into and out of an unheated location every winter in these parts. My recommendation: leave it at HD, it is scandalous that they sell standards north of 7b (IMHO).

Wow- did not have any idea that these could not be grown in the ground in these parts. At any rate, did not purchase one but did find a nice yellow bush rose - tolerates minus 30 degrees. Name Lemoncello. Sale price $12.74. Looks very healthy and tag says blooms early to late summer. Plant now or wait 'til spring?? Thanks.

I would plant it now, there is plenty of time for it to settle in before the ground freezes.
