I had pretty good luck with purple hull peas and bush green beans this spring so I decided to plant a few more rows of each for a late summer crop. I planted them a couple weeks ago, and have had problems with them. A couple of the rows are doing good while others, the whole row of seedlings has wilted and died. It has been very hot and dry. It finally rained yesterday. It's just odd that some of the rows are doing better than others. It looks like the seedlings that have died have shriveled below the soil surface, and eventually the stem just separates from the roots when you pull it out of the ground. I'm attaching some pictures. What do y'all think is causing this? I didn't have this problem with my first planting.
