Eclipse?

What are you doing for the eclipse this month?

It's a three hour drive (normally) to the center of totality from my place. I plan to hop in my new car and head towards Rexburg Idaho to watch it. I have my glasses. No plans to stay overnight. It can be a there and back trip, unless traffic is way more than I expect. I'll give it 5 hours before the start.

My new car...as of yesterday, a 2014 Prius C4. 27,000 miles, bright red with black leather interior. I call her the Cherry Bomb. 56.7 mpg driving the 70 miles home from the dealer, including a mountain pass. Woot. 64.1 on the 7 mile commute to town this morning.

Well we are smack dab in the middle of totality. Meeting I went to on Monday night said to expect no less than 25K people here up to 100K. needless to say even at 25K I am terrified. I invited three total strangers to come stay with me at my house. I am less afraid having total strangers than to sit this one out alone. they will be here Sunday night through possible Monday night. The roads are supposed to be impassable starting Sunday evening so they will roll in hopefully by early afternoon Sunday. After that getting out of here it is predicted even with the lowest amount of people to take 5 to 6 hours to travel 36 miles. String weaver you might up your travel times a bit or maybe check into it to see. Honestly I could care less about this. I have seen an eclipse. Not total of course but it really has no interest for me. But then maybe I will have met some fun friends.

And yes I know it all sounds so dangerous. Well let me tell you about dangerous. I had the 20 year old grandson of the next door neighbors that has been stalking me since March throwing rocks at my house the other night for 2 hours. It was in the middle of the night and I just was not sure what was going on. The next morning it was obvious and I had the sheriff make a call on him and sheriff said for sure he did it but would not admit it. Anyway he did warn him that is is breaking the law and next time he will be charged. Of course kid did not tall grand parents which did not happen to be home when sheriff went over there so I told them that night. So tired of being stalked and bullied by this kid. The people coming know of this and will be setting him straight.

Stringweaver that is some amazing gas mileage. Very impressed.

We live close enough to the line of totality that if we leave in the early morning, we won't have to try to find a room anywhere for the night before (not that there are likely any left). I hear traffic is going to be a nightmare, so what should take an hour to drive, we're planning on 3 and then an additional hour or 2 to find parking.

Chris how horrible. I had a neighbor kid, not that bad, when I first moved into my place. He took mail out of my mailbox, for which I called in the sheriff. He also destroyed my mail box twice, which is why I switched to a PO Box. I hear he's been in prison.

I plan to leave about 5 am, with a packed breakfast and lunch. I'll get as far as I get and plan to stop and watch at a rest stop or truck stop, even pulled over on a ranch exit, rather than try and get into town. I'll top up the tank and I won't have to get gas. :)

Pressure is off me! Not in the path! um, Chris, maybe you should email me every morning and every night while your new friends are at your house... Even if it's all working out splendidly.

I have a "problem" tenant that has not paid rent this month. Court date? August 21. I had already taken the day off to watch the eclipse, but I guess I will be watching it from the courthouse parking lot. :) We will be at about 70%.

Totally 100% overcast and now it's pouring rain. We needed the rain and I wasn't planning to watch the sun. Just being outside at that time would have been enough. Oh, well. Next time.

I haven't heard from shades and I did email her. If not by tomorrow I'm calling her local law enforcement.

Eclipse was amazing. Really enjoyed it. got a couple cool shots. One not so much of the eclipse but the Midvale Buzzards circling just as the eclipse was ending and also just to the left of the sun spot is a visible planet. I forget which one. that was a lucky capture as I could not see it until after I processed the photo. I tried to get a photo of the total dark and my camera would not capture it. Was just blank black. the temperature dropped about 12 degrees during the totality then right back up. I am glad my friends were here. We really had a good time. Several photos. One of the eclipse and I took this straight with my camera because you could do so when it was total but not a second after it started to come back. then the buzzards. the shadows show crescents of about 3/4 totality and then my colanders were also showing the eclipse as shadows on the table. As I said we really had fun.

The holes in the shadows were round until it went into the eclipse. Friend had camera set up on tripod and he said he will send me any good shots he gets.
