It's been almost a week and still nothing if I don't here anything in another week I going to have to track down a different way to get a truck load of wood chips.

try your local county some time they have it for free.

El chino they do but I don't have a way to bring it home and they don't deliver. So far I have not got any and I will soon start calling tree trimming companies and try that way.

thats a good idea you got to get them at the right time.

My neighbor did that. She said it took the tree company weeks to deliver and they dumped it in the wrong place. Other than that she said it was a will. I'm thinking of doing the same as I need a truck load for the back yard.

If you can travel around and spot companies working for the power companies they are usually responsive, if they do not already have a commitment. I have done that several times with good results. Also keep an eye on Craigslist some times companies working out of their normal area will post there looking for places to dump.

Around here, in Sarasota, it's difficult to get a tree company to deliver it even if you have a good area to dump it. I think they rightfully think about the liability. However, it you can get a load, it is wonderful for garden beds, paths, etc.. Our soil has improved so much in the last decade from doing this at least once yearly and supplementing with oak leaves. Nothing like it to attract earthworms and improve soil tilth! Crossing your fingers for you, Glenn, and for me too!

I finally got a load

I've tried 3or4 times with the orange trucks and have given up. Yesterday morning I found them near by about a block away and I talked to a supervisor in a small white truck and he told me that when he got a good load for my use he would have it dropped off. I didn't have much hope of that happening but maybe. I was woke up this morning at 6:45 by a text message they were on their way. here by 7:30. So happy. Its a great mix of pine and oak wood chips and leaves and needles. I will take another please.

Usually, Asplundh (orange trucks) only dump for the power companies' free mulch program, but if you can find a nice supervisor, like you did, and you're closeby, they'll break that rule. I ordered free mulch from FPL once and it was a six-month waiting list.

I've already started moving it. It doesn't look like much when you just see the pile but when you start moving it you realize it's a bit more than you think. this will increase my soil fertility so much and faster than the bags of leave the nice neighbors bring me. A couple of load will fast forward everything.

I've discovered two things. first I need a wheel barrel. Moving it by 5 gallon bucket just is not very efficient. Second this load is heating up fast from all the green in it. I've been at moving and using on and off all day and have barely put a dent in it. I will be picking up a wheel barrel tomorrow morning.

Suncoast, i try a couple different services online and never got a response. As far as I can tell in my area my choice is the dump but I have to pick it up are these guys who take most of theirs to the dump and get charged per load. Before they left they gave me a number and told me when ever I want a load let them know and they will bring me one.that has made me so happy because I can see the vision of what I want being a possibility now. Anx ghe mix of leaves and needles with the wood chips is great.just can't ask for better.

I woke up this morning to their truck backing up and dumping another load.yay!

Whenever I'd see an Asplund truck clearing the power lines nearby I'd stop and give the driver $20 to bring the wood chips by when they were through. They were happy to as it saved them a lot of time. They always dumped it right where I needed it. Sometimes it would be quite a bit coarser than I'd like, they'd say the blades were dull and needed replacing. You never know what kind of wood will be in it though. The guys I dealt with always claimed it was all oak they were trimming, but I'm sure there was a lot of Brazilian pepper mixed in. Never was a problem, though.

David, so far my loads have been mostly pine with about 40%pine straw but it does have some oak and maple in it. As it dries out its starting to look really nice.
