Style over...

I know why they used those pedestal sinks, but doesn't having to use a cart for everyday items defeat the overall design?

It's not a very nice cart, either. A cute vintage dresser would work, but an IKEA cart belongs in the classroom or kitchen.

I've often thought this myself when looking at pedestal sinks, even when they are as good-looking as these. I do like that they used very handsome built-in medicine cabinets, though.

Something similar to this would blend in better. We have made custom bathroom cabinets on casters as well as free-standing shelf units, and so I think it is possible to have a free-standing cabinet or shelf unit that goes with the design, but the one you showed is not that.

I don't quite understand the purpose of the small rug in the middle either.

maybe it's some sort of "we're in the middle of something" photo?

I also don't know how flexible they were with plumbing etc but that shower glass door is too close to the other door

And I don't know why they put pedestal sinks:) I do like the mirror cabinets though very neat

LOVE the built-in medicine cabinets, and the sinks, but yes, that cart really brings down the glamour quotient of the room. Let's hope they're waiting to find a nice vintage piece to replace it.

Is this a professionally decorated room, one found in a magazine or what? I can't help but wonder why the owner would allow a photo like that to be published anywhere, except as a "Before" pic when asking for ideas on what to do next with this bathroom. I do like the sconces and the medicine cabinets. The pedestal sinks and shower are very nice, but the plastic, utilitarian cart and rug both seem so out of place . . . and give the room a very boring feel. I like Fori's idea of a smallish vintage dresser to house necessities. I'd also look for needlepoint rugs with a light background. I used to have some in one of my bathrooms that would have been perfect in there. Has anyone mentioned the framed art in there? They are definitely going for a white wintery look, I guess!

It feels like a "what do I do now that the ceiling has leaked and messed up the floor by my shower?" photo. Is it a wet room? Why is there a step down to get in?

This is exactly what I envision in the Building a Home or Bathroom forums when someone is finishes up a bath with a freestanding tub floating in the middle of the floor. Especially when they say something like. "I need to find something for next to the tub to put things on, like a little table. Preferably inexpensive. Right now I just set things on the floor or on the edge of the tub".

Just what I want to feature next to my ceremonial altar to bathing. A pile of bottles with sales stickers on them from Target, on the floor or on "something inexpensive". I really don't get the concept of all these open freestanding things if there is no storage. I'd rather have the old three piece with the alcove tub and vanity cabinet.

Looks like a flip, do the cheapest thing. They shouldn't have taken the picture with the cart, tho.

That giant damp spot just screams incorrectly waterproofed shower. Add the super weird high curb, and the Ikea cart, and yeah, I'd bet this is a flippy flipperson sin. Probably some type of garage conversion.

I have long maintained that pedestal sinks are the worst of all worlds. Either go wall hung so it's easier to clean under or get a nice vanity for storage.

I am going to guess they went with the cart because it was cheap and easy to move for cleaning purposes.

Here's the listing - I find the overall look/style confusing like it's two different homes

When floor space is not a constraint why would anyone not go with a cabinet? Makes no sense. They were trying for "high style" and forgot USE out trumps LOOKS every time. I like the look of a pretty pedestal sink and these are--they are just hugely non functional, in the long haul. oooo just thought, bet they were trying for a period look. 1920's but not? There was a reason when bathrooms enlarged cabinets were born!!!
