15 Seed Pods One One Plant

Okay.... I'm like crazy nuts right now! I was adjusting a plant this morning that I "tilted" on the sidewalk to help with drainage after a 1" rain shower. I noticed a seed pod and started looking, and there are 15 baby pods on this little plant. It is only 24" at its tallest. Just a single Obesum variety. Will this plant sustain that many pods?

I noticed a bumblebee this week flying around between my Hawaiian Sundowner hibiscus and adeniums. I'm guessing he/she is the reason I have so many pods! I have never fertilized it, just sunshine and rain here in Florida. Should I keep the same regimen or start giving it some food?

Just a quick update. I decided to leave the pods and let nature take its course. I have a couple of other plants with two pods, so if nothing else I hope I get viable seeds from those. As of now, 24 pods are still doing well and a 25th pod has started to form.

For perspective, the pot is 9.5" wide at the top and 7.5" tall

For my own record - Up to 20 pods now. 12 on the left branch and 8 on the right branch. Also looks like another pair may be in the offering....

It will put quite a drain on your plant. Some of the seeds may not fully develop so if it was my own plant, I would remove most of them except for the largest few. That way some energy can still go into making other leaves and flowers. With other kinds of plants it is possible for them to produce so many seeds or flowers that they can kill themselves, though I do not know if that is true at all of adeniums. I haven't heard of it being a concern normally.

That is what I am afraid of. I've never had an adenium with this many seed pods and it lt looks like I'm up to 24 now. The biggest problem is actually removing pods! I'm having a hard time thinking about that. :-(

Anywhere from 50 to 100 seeds.

My oldest plant had what appeared to be 10+ pods last year. Most of them aborted before they were very big at all. If they form into 1" horns, they should continue until they ripen. I do water mine more while they are growing seeds.

Thanks for the insight jebdoda..... My plant is struggling, as all of mine are. Not sure if the issue is too much sun, or these pests that I have found on them. The plant's pods still look good, but the leaves are horrible. I just pulled 3 of these unknown pests off of pods this morning and off of leaves of multiple adeniums.

Thought I would give an update. 24 pods all still hanging in there. 4 have started to split and have used twisty ties on them (advice from others). I thought I had a few more weeks and was going to cover them with knee high hose, but didn't have them yet as I didn't expect them to start opening yet. No leaves left......
