What To Plant In These?

Hi everyone,

I've been hunting for some small pots lately and I spotted these at my local Dollar General ( $1 a piece-quite the bargain!), and today, I punched the drainage holes in them to pot up some of my smaller Hoyas that could use repotting). Trying to choose what Hoyas would go nicely into them. Here are the planters.

For plant choices, I have:

~Obscura (the variety formerly known as Philip)

~Var. macrophylla

~Finlaysonii "Ripple Leaf"

~Motoskei

~pubicalyx "Pink Silver" and "RHP"

I may go try the different looks. I could either use these for cache pots or plant directly in them. They wouldn't get too hot as the sun doesn't stay on my plants for the whole day, or are in full sun.

I could crochet hangers for them and hang them up, too. I *think* I have the room..... ;)

I only use metal pots as cache pots as it seems like plants (for me) don't do well in metal. I don't know if there's some leaching that goes on because of the watering or what, but it's been my experience. I do like cute metal pots, though!

Very nice Brad. I think I would plant Hoyas that might prefer to be trellised vs hanging. Please post photos of the Hoyas you picked.

I have a few others that I did not list that could go into these, too. I repotted obscura tonight and both pubicalyxes that I listed are too big for these pots. Here are a couple others I am considering:

~cv. Mathilde

~australis "Lizard Isle"

Motoskei looks quite nice in it, and it can climb or be grown hanging. I have a carnosa that was sent to me as cuttings that were from someone's grandmother's plant that could fit in there (either planted or as a cache pot). I'll toy around with my plants tomorrow and then decide.

Decided to use them as cache pots for kerrii and motoskei.

Nice choices Brad, they look lovely. I would keep an eye on the one on the left as it's a tight(ish) fit in the cache pot.

Denise, yep I ended up using these for cache pots, too. They say metal planters can get a little bit hot if they set in the sun too long and that can damage the roots, so I went the safer route. I like cute metal pots/planters, too! That's the kerrii you sent me some time ago! :)

Thank you, Karen! Motoskei is in there pretty snug, and I had repotted it before putting it in the new metal cache pot. I like how the green leaves contrast with the galvanized metal of the pots.

Yes it does :). I'm really hoping for both of them to bloom, as both have gorgeous flowers. I am really tempted to order a motoskei from Gardino's to make my plant larger, unless someone out there has cuttings of it (*wink wink, nudge nudge*).

Motoskei is my personal favorite of the two. I like kerrii for the leaves, but there's just something about motoskei that is so cute and charming. I'm actually on the hunt for some cuttings of it to make it a fuller plant.
