Same old Same old

From about 2:00 yesterday afternoon until about 10:00 this morning, there was nothing broken at my house. Regular maintenance, yes, but nothing broken in need of a repair person. And then I decided to run the stove grates through the dishwasher while I washed the stove. It never started washing so I pushed the button again. Nothing. And again. Nothing. I tried every cycle. Nothing. This dishwasher is about 4 years old and has been fixed twice already not to mention the lights on the control panel don't all work. Do I fix it again? Dump it and get a new one? I've sort of looked online at what's available at the store here. I'll have to spend $400 to $600 for a "better" one. Comparing the features, I like the $400 one as well as the $600 one. If I buy other than local the repair person will come. At his pleasure. And I'll pay parts and labor which I'll pay anyway but...

    what do they consider 'better'?

I'd probably get the cheaper one (depending on brand) and buy a repair contract for it, if I used one enough to warrant it.

I have one (more than 4 yrs old) that works, but I don't use it. I only have 1 plug in under the sink (that works) and have to unplug the disposal to plug it in - so I don't!

I consider better. A better one than I have now. I WISH I would have had my old one repaired no matter the cost at the time. Hindsight. Which leads me back to this dishwasher. If it were older I'd get it repaired. New stuff is crap. Remember the 2 repair trips it's had already. Old stuff lasts forever. Now they quit making parts after 5 years and you have no choice but to replace it.

I even took a trip to the bosch web site but even though it says you can compare models, you can't. That button takes you to the Australian guy's video. No matter what I tried for comparison, same video. I ended up opening each dishwasher in a separate window and looking at the specs that way. PITA.

It seems like those repair contracts cost a lot of money and only last for one repair before they expire. My stuff breaks a year and a day after I buy it.

I've become quite friendly with the repair man and if I buy somewhere else I won't have access to him. He gets parts here over night and comes when the parts come. If I buy somewhere/online/big box it could mean a 10 day wait for someone to come and then who knows how long for him to come back and fix it. So I buy local.

I am going to ask if they have connections with other appliance stores and IF they can get a Bosch. That's what I wanted last time.

My computer kid will do an install and another friend could/would do repairs. Both very competent with the circuit boards in them and plumbing of every stripe. Bosch is ordered. the cheap one and it's on sale, friends and family. Can't be any worse than the two Whirlpools I've had in the last 5 years. Looked up my paperwork for this last one. Bought June 2015.
