do you know the type of wood used? I so want to do this but avoid rot and budget friendly if its even possible.

Dustin, it's reclaimed snow fence material from a company called Centennial Woods Products in Laramie, WY. They have a variety of products that essentially range from wood that has been minimally handled/worked to products that have been cleaned of nails, planed and sized for quicker and easier install. I bought the least expensive version and took to pulling nails. I bevel cut the top and bottom edges so I could install the boards as a weather screen to allow air movement and drying. Some of the wood was warped, cupped and twisted, all of which needed to be addressed at install to get it as straight and flat on the wall as possible. We installed them on 1x2 furring strips using 1 3/4" stainless steel finish screws. Allowing this reclaimed wood to dry is, in my opinion, the very best way to assure it will last. It's been installed on my house for 6 years now and we've had no indication of rot or advancing decay.

I had those panels rolled from 24ga coil stock. They are "extra dark bronze" rolled to 16" wide w/ 2" standing seams for hidden fasteners. I think the material was from Firestone
