What do you guys use to feed your hoyas? I know aurorawa uses Miracle Gro Tomato Food--what about the rest of you?

After reading a lot of threads from this site, I just started using Superthrive when I water and spritz with Eleanor's V-11. So far, all plants are very happy.

I alternate with what I have on hand. In the spring and summer, it's usually MiracleGrow tomato food, because I grow tomatoes during then. During the fall/winter, it's usually FoliagePro, as I have other houseplants that love it.

I also occasionally use earthworm castings and blood meal throughout the year, as they seem to like that.

Thanks for the responses...I used a German plant food specifically made for hoyas, but finally ran out of it and apparently they're either no longer making it or not importing it....so I'm looking for something else...where do you get Foliage Pro?---I don't think I've heard of that....

Amazon has it, it's called dyna grow foliage pro.

I also went to the Foliage grow website and they had a list of local retailers also. I picked up mine at a local grow shop.

I use Foliage Pro as luckily, I have a local friend who shared his w/me, but before that I'd used several MG fertilizers, also Schultz or Peters balanced fertilizers.

    Hi CarolynNV,

Just FYI: Neither Superthrive nor Eleanors VF-11 are fertilizers nor are they labeled so. I never found benefit w/ Superthrive, so I don't use it. I haven't used my Eleanors yet this year, but I believe they refer to themselves as a tonic. I learned here to use it sprayed as a foliar feed. But I continued to use fertilizer w/ that as well.

Currently, I've been experimenting w/ fish tank water from my Boss' aquariums. So far the Spaths love it, not sure yet of the Hoya responses.

I use fishtank water as well. My plants love it. I also have pothos growing out the back of my tanks.

Thanks, Karen, for the info. I knew that about Eleanor's, but hadn't read much on Superthrive. Someone gave it to me, and I have only used it for a few waterings. I will get some Foliage Pro to try with my next waterings. As far as Eleanor's, I have been spritzing with it for a few weeks and my plants are all putting out a lot of new growth. It could be the season, the Eleanor's, or a combination of both.

The fishtank water gave me an idea some weeks ago. I use Easylife Profito for my fishtank, which according to their website has mostly potassium, iron and micronutrients:

"The high concentrations of, in particular, iron, potassium and magnesium
in ProFito fulfil the plants’ need to absorb large quantities of these
nutrients. This plant food contains also many other micronutrients
(including manganese, boron, cobalt, lithium, molybdenum, copper, tin,
nickel, fluorine, iodine, aluminium, zinc, selenium and vanadium"

So i made a solution in a spraybottle (~10 ml in 300 ml water) and spray my plants with it sometimes - foliar feeding. I dont have a control group to have objective measurements but the plants seem to be happy.

    What do you think?

I use fox farm big bloom, florilicus plus, and occasionally Miracle grow all purpose.

My plants dont seem to be suffering but are these bad?
