Brother Stefan - 2 Different Versions?

I think that there may be 2 different versions of Brother Stefan. Even the pics on the Hosta Library seem to show a 3 colour version and a brighter 4 colour version.

I picked up the 3 colour version a couple of years ago and the 4 colour one a few days ago. Here they are together:

Do you agree?

You're comparing an older plant with a much younger one, but the color difference to me looks like it's due to sun exposure. I could be wrong since I don't have any Brother Stefans. Either way, I'd plant them nearby, or where they'll receive fairly equal amounts of sunlight, and then see what they look like next year.

Thank you Pretty Bird. Maybe you're right and Brother Stefan responds strongly to different light conditions like June does. I'll plant them close together and report back next year...

Rotfl...I'm getting in on this, lol.

No, THIS is what Brother Stefan looks like! : )

Don, I love the soft blue-y tinge to yours! Earlier in season or..? Lovely.

ConnieMae if I recall correctly I think I had additional colours earlier in the season..

Gorgeous plants everyone...although they are all so very different! Please share how much light you have your plant in.

Jo - we must have our plants in the same amount of light because mine (older one) looks most like yours I think.

Don - I don't think my plant ever looks like yours, very pretty and soft.

Gary - how old is your plant? It looks huge!

Manyhosta - I can't take my eyes off of that leaf at 3 o'clock - WOW!

Manyhosta, if you don't mind me asking, what is the blue-centered hosta that is pictured to the left of your Brother Stefan?

ConnieMay, mine is in sun from sunup until around 1:30-2:00 then shade - sun swings to the front of house.

ConnieMay, my plant is around 10 years old and gets morning sun. It's on the North side of my back shed.

@Pretty Birds, The hosta to the left of Brother Stefan is Deja Blu. It has cool seed pods, too.

@ConnieMay, my Brother Stefan is about 10 years old. It is on the southwest corner of my property, in front of a very old lilac that provides dappled shade except for 2 -3 hours of morning sun exposure. It is in zone 4b near Minneapolis at the 45th parallel, planted in clay overlaid with almost 20 years of compost, decades of decayed spruce needles and fine bark mulch. Here are a few leaves with several shades of green.

It's near the far right end of the hostas in this picture. You can barely see it, peeking out of the ferny shade with El Nino in front of it and Queen of the Nile/Dee's Golden Jewel to its right.

Thanks everyone for your responses! Yes Jo - almost the same lighting conditions as mine. I really do like the way it looks in a bit of sun and will probably leave the more mature one there.

I do need to find a morning sun spot for my new aquisition so that I can try to get some leaves looking like Gary & Manyhostas...I hope I don't have to wait 10 years...
