We recently purchased a new home that needs a little TLC. We have several projects in mind including a kitchen addition out the back and some exterior cosmetic work but first we need to replace our garage due to foundation issues. My question is what roof line would best complement the Gambrel style roof of the house?

The current garage is a 20 X 20 hip roof garage and we're tentatively planning the new garage will be only slightly larger (potentially 26 X 24). The lot is a long and narrow city lot with the house in front and the garage in back which is accessed by an alley. The garage and house are separated by about 50 ft of lawn so in theory the house and the garage are rarely seen together from the same vantage point. I've considered Gambrel roof garages but they typically have an attic or apartment. Though the extra space is appealing - they are more expensive and I'm not sure we'd use it/need it. However, it might be something we'd consider pursuing if it was clearly the right choice.
