As a beginner, I'd replace a few of them on your wish list. For example, curtisii can be a challenge. I've grown Hoyas for 40 years and I'm on my forth one and it still gives me a fit. It's a beauty, yes, but a bitch, too! LOL! The krohniana is a good choice because it's easy to grow and you're still getting adorable, beautifully textured, heart-shaped leaves. It also blooms fairly easy whereas I know of few people who have gotten curtisii to bloom.

Polyneura is another temperamental one. I'm on my third try with that one and I have two things to say about it - it's one of the worst mealybug magnets, and it's very prone to over and under watering.

I have also not had good luck with calycina or waymaniae. If I were throwing out suggestions for someone just starting to grow Hoyas, I think kerrii is a good one, any pubicalyx for sure, and maybe finlaysonii (some people find it finicky...) Other easy ones... any of the long leaved Hoyas like shepherdell, 'Minibelle' or wayetti are very easy and bloom easily. Anything in the same complex as carnosa, like fungii, dasyantha, or any of the carnosa cultivars. And I think the ones in the pottsii complex are easy as well, like verticillata and a couple of my favorites, juannguoiana and deykeae.

Multiflora (or javanica) is easy to grow, blooms without much encouragement.

I agree with Denise! It's care requirements are different than many species, though. It will thrive in a vase filled with LECA, with no drainage, much like buotii, halconensis, and alagensis. Keep an inch or so of water in the bottom of the vase at all times, as it is a thirsty species.

Bottom heat in the cold seasons can tremendously help it pull through.

It is a mealybug favorite, so be vigilant about examining for pests.

You can find it on Amazon, Ebay, and in hydroponic stores. Soak overnight and rinse thoroughly before using.

is Hoya linearis complicated?

In my experience, yes. I got cuttings of them around 2 years ago. They were very difficult to root. Once rooted, if over-watered, it declines VERY rapidly. It's too bad, because it is a unique and lovely species.

I let my fitchii dry out completely, and I have very low humidity, yet it's doing fine.
