Yeah, I think it looks bare because what's there is so underscale for the length of this thing. I might put a much more substantial light at one end and then either nothing more, or a tall vase, or maybe two framed prints hanging above each other on the opposite end wall.

Beautiful windows BTW, what is the decor style you gravitate towards? I see coffee table books possibly a large purple orchid arrangement for color and either a sculpture or object of interest that speaks to you. Pretty simple not to take away from the windows.

What a perfect place to display framed family photographs. I would use different sizes layered along the whole length. That area would also be a terrific place to display whatever collection you might have like orchids, candlesticks or coffee table books (stacked). What I absolutely wouldn't do is add a bunch of HomeGoods-type tchotchkes.

Not knowing anything about your style, it's hard to make suggestions. I'd just say something of normal entry/table lamp size, with enough presence to hold its own against the size and the windows (without competing).

What size do you have now. Not huge in size but a statement piece in my opinion. Elegant but simple.

Another thought- what goes on "upstairs", where you pass the hallway? I see a family photo on the floor- ready for hanging, I'm sure. Do you have family/kids needs, where a "space" for each could be meaningful? All the weird stuff kids download from their backpacks, from permission slips that need signing to finished tests that parents get to look at. You could post a meaningful photo for each kiddo, a tray or two to do that and then- yes, I'm a sneaky mom- there's no excuses :)

Your foyer is gorgeous. Not knowing what your style is, first go "shopping" in your home. You would be surprised the collection you can gather.

I agree with a larger lamp and small framed art (butterflies/vintage tile). A collection of same type or same color items is always impressive. Add a runner rug in front of the buffet. Here are some inspiration pics:

Honestly, I wouldn't want to clutter it up. I am sure you have other places for family photos and knick knacks.

I would do two large lamps on either side. Then I would try to find something similar to what is there now only much longer, to put in the middle. Done.

I would keep it simple because it's gorgeous as is and I abhor dusting stuff that is j-u-s-t there. A slightly larger lamp for better scale in a style that you're drawn to and complements the windows would be nice - I do love that mosaic lamp acm posted above and would use an oval shade to keep it tucked back. Since it is an upstairs space, a few b/w framed family photos on the opposite wall from the lamp would be lovely, maybe also between the windows but I'd start without and see if you need/want more. I wouldn't run out and buy anything but if you find a long, low tray or bowl in your travels or shopping, something artistic that speaks to you, that could work. Or a long, low planter trough with succulents - trendy, I know, but that would be a good place for them.

in order to be able to help you with this, the style of the rooms around it is most important. There are so many options, but they would really depend on what the overall style of he other rooms are.

my first instinct is to not only look at accessories, but first address the gorgeous windows, themselves. these are the focal point, and making sure that they are treated as such is your first step. Please feel free to add pics of other rooms in the house for some suggestions on how to treat those, if you have other rooms that have been designed to your liking.

I could see cafe awnings, valances, cornices, or even a neat drapery treat ment, just depending on your style.

What about a tray or 2 containing potted plants, since there are windows? Trays would protect the wood surface from water & complement the rectangular shape of the cabinets.

I'm a fan of symmetry & rhythm & I can visualize some taller objects like lamps or sculptures in the spaces between windows, w/ matching trays containing ferns, pothos or something equally carefree between those.

Perhaps a beautiful long runner in a tapestry look would work, also a larger lamp.

if you're into pottery/sculptures/vases, then a small collection of these would work

if you love books-great place to put there a couple of albums

if you need light there-an interesting lamp

and-you can't go wrong with a plant or two

all of the above would work as well:) just group them in a way that will give eyes something to concentrate on, and some visual relief as well, rather than spreading them out evenly

I wouldn't put anything in between the windows, unless I madly love something small and not rectangular..:) I happen to have couple of ceramic sculptures like that

btw you can leave it bare too, and concentrate on other walls/surfaces..sometimes leaving alone works very well. until you feel like you found what you really love
