Paint the metal bronze, and replace the carpet and metal with bug chunky wood treads, being careful to pay attention to maintaining a uniform rise and run.

I LOVE your staircase! But I am a huge mid century fan. I would get rid of the carpet and put wood over the metal. I don't know what the rest of your house looks like, but maybe paint the railing and metal step support a black or dark grey. That with a wood step would look gorgeous and make the staircase contrast against the gorgeous wall of white windows and really stand out and be a focal point.

I would also recommend changing your front door to a simple glass. If you don't want glass, go with a clean mid century style wood with a few light cutouts.

I would remove the carpet (it reminds me of those cat trees:)) For the rest, it depends on the budget..The treads would look better in wood As for the rail, it looks very thin, but that might be the photo

I would paint it black with wooden treads. I agree that if you changed your door, it would make a huge impact, especially if you stained it the same color as the treads..front entrance would then all come together.

well, based on our experiences with removing carpet from spiral stair risers, you are going to need new treads and balustrades if you want to do anything other than recarpet it. as you say the treads are metal, and since the balusters are attached to the metal on top (not the sides) you cannot just set a piece of wood on top between the balusters.

i'd rebuild it before i'd rewrap it.

and yes, its the wrong front door for the foyer you have.

If you post a few pictures of the living room and entry area, we can perhaps give suggestions which will go with your style. Include one exterior photo of your front entrance.

What I see is double front doors with oval glass in a wall of big rectangular glass framed in large trim. The doors look lost. New doors which are more similar to the rest of that wall would be my first plan.
Then I would consider the privacy issue. Unless you live in a walled estate, anyone can see into your home.

Sounds like I need a welder to handle all the metal issues. That is a problem with the balustrades since they are on top of the tread.

Everything has been a work in progress changing the decor the previous owners had. Here are a few more pics.

The rail color is very good but the treads (look great without carpet btw) would look much better in a darker color, maybe closer to the rail color?

Thanks Gina. I wondered about the tread color after I painted them. I’ll more than likely give it a few months and then repaint them a darker brown.

I like your concrete treatment - what kind did you use, please? A larger photo the white ties in well with white window framing.....
