You will probably have to Google search for each hosta by name, rather than hybridizer. When the hosta locator at AHS goes into place next year, your job will be a whole lot easier. ;-)

Hostas fall in and out of favor, and what was hot a few years ago may not be in the tc labs these days, and difficult to find.

I saw the plant at Wade and Gatton in Van's "private collection". The collection includes lots of plants that are not for sale. I just wondered if anyone knew how their plants are marketed.

i met the wards back in the late 90s .... and they had to be in their late 60s or early 70s then ...

i dont think they cared about selling their hosta ... they were out of colombus ... and that is why van had his OH connection ...

van used to have 'waiting lists' for special plants .. some peeps waited up to 5 years.. to get the plant of their dreams ...

They still have special waiting lists there but with Van's recent death, I think it's going to take them some time to decide what changes to make, etc. This past Saturday was the first time we got to go into his "special huts" to take a peek--in the past they weren't open to us. I left with just 4 plants so that was a first! One of his biggest, King of the Woods and three others. I also saw a Parhelion in Van's area which looked very interesting. Does anyone grow this sport of Sum and Substance--it looked spectacular growing under shade cloth, it was a wonderful shade of chartreuse--much better than any pictures that I've seen online.
