Give it plenty sunlight and less nitrogen fertilizer. It will switch to generative growth with a lot of flowers

It feels like it much be something other than light troubles since it used to bloom fine on less than it has now. It used to flower beautifully at my mother-in-law's apartment, even though she never brought it outside. The particularly crazy thing is that she only had it in an east-facing window! I thought that it would consider my south-facing window a serious upgrade, but I can't seem to get flowers for the life of me.

ETA: Also, I'd love to put it outdoors, but I haven't got a balcony unfortunately. Really hoping that I can make something work indoors! Seems like it must be possible since it was for my mother-in-law. I wish I could ask her what her magic was!

This year has been a bit strange. We had a good warmish weather from Feb till April when it suddenly dropped below freezing for a week. And then the Summer had been unusually on the cool side. The veges/fruits are not doing that great. The plants are big and healthy but not much fruit production. Bougies are not flowering that much either. Hibiscus are slow too.

Heat, sun and fast draining soil are the main things for Bougainvilleas. And too much nitrogen is a negative for flowering. They do remarkably well in poor soils with little fertiliser input. However, in a pot there's less of a buffering effect from having so little soil around them so fertiliser becomes a bit more important. But, as has been suggested, use something with less nitrogen.

Mine will bloom in low light of a west window in spring before I summer it outdoors. I suspect the pruning set it back. Do not wait until the leaves wilt to water. What kind of potting mix is it in?
