Different Color Hardwood

We are installing new hardwood in our family room and dining room. The family room is open concept and flows to our kitchen. The dining room is closed off with French doors. The dining room leads to our staircase on the opposite side of the main floor away from the family room. Would it be ok to put different color hardwood in the two rooms? I have a color that really flows nice with the kitchen cabinets for the family room (medium greyish brown). But the dining room looks so much better with a dark color. I should mention that the stairs are dark stained like the color I like for the dining room.

I should mention too that our upstairs hallway will be dark wood as well to flow with the stairs.

sigh,,,a picture is worth a thousand words....in your case, a paragraph. if these rooms connect, it should be the same flooring. paint your dining room a diff color to go w/the grayish brown, or get the dark brown. i'm sure it will look fine in the kitchen.

Pictures would help. I suggest going with one color for it all. Since upstairs (and the stairs) are that dark color I would suggest going with that for the living room as well. A home looks too choppy when it has multiple types and colors of flooring going on.
