I'd obscure if it in the shower, outside of it could go either way

I would rethink a casement window. My experience is that the crank on the window tends to get stripped and broken within a short time. The window, may swell from the steam in the bathroom and will not close using the crank. You will have to go outside to push the window shut. A double hung window in the bathroom is more practical. You can then use your roman shade opening top or bottom because you will be able to open the top window for circulation and leave the bottom closed for privacy. We had the same issue in our bathroom. We put in a double hung and installed a custom shutter covering 3/4 of the window from the bottom. We leave it closed and open the top window for circulation. You can then use a clear glass. I just serviced a casement crank mechanism the other day. It was probably the 4th or 5th that I have done in about 10 years to be honest and the newer mechanisms are even better than before.

I would have agreed with you about 10 years ago, but Truth (the manufacturer of much of the casement hardware) is making some great stuff these days.

A few years ago, I installed an Anderson casement with 'Rain Glass' in the bathroom. It's a composite window - white - needs no finish.

The crank-out hardware and mechanism are quite sturdy.

FYI. Shutters.com (I think) is where we purchased ours and they have a special finish for bathrooms. The product was very high quality and they called us before placing the order to confirm all the measurements. I recommend.
