Best surprise this year was an unregistered cultivar recommended by Emerson and Nancy Willis last year. He said he found the parent tree off of Highway US-1 in the Keys. He calls it US-1 Rainbow. Good growth habits, prolific blooms which fade after a few days giving a unique look. It's 2 or 3 year old plant.

Mine is Shimmering because of the floral fragrance, the deep veining and the deep glowing coloration. The foliage is also beautiful.. I'm loving this cultivar.

Celadine for its scent,glossy leaves and what puts it at no.1 ? Hardiness. Also,it will bloom in a climate of 74-80f summers.

Stanofh, That seems to be concensus about Celadine as far as sturdiness. Glad to hear that you are growing all outside and in Bay Area. Gives me hope.

Some plants sold as "Celadine" are not. Dull leaves,smaller flowers when you compare them side by side,and Celadine has the double vein...the others don't. Not that the other whites/yellow throats are less hardy..sometimes in the tropical world the most humble member is the one the hardiest.

I know that. Plumeria here are very marginal..not like Florida where they are tree's. Even soucal gets them tree sized. Its taken climate change just to get them to make it through a bay area summer to bloom. There are warmer climates in the south bay..they have a shot at real large Plumeria shrubs.

The bottom left bloom has 6 pedals.... she will throw a handful of 6's every year.

The smells is like roses and strong.

Wow! So I am a little more way from retiring but really thinking about where I need to retire to grow such beauties ;). Got a lot to think about if my obsession still remains when I do retire... for now, sighing until the day of my first bloom which can be a long long way with a lot of heartaches along the way.

You gots to try Andre,Plumeria obtusa "Singapore"..in various colors and- by a winter window,evergreen. I hear Peach colored Thai Plumeria rubra,is semi hardy in the bay area. I never have gotten one to try.

If your in Livermore or Walnut Creek,they should all thrive in pots.

Stan, thanks for suggestions. I will look into those. For now just honing my plumeria skill/knowledge before advancing to more exotics. So mostly basic plumerias from very generous members here sharing cuttings/seedlings. I am in San Jose.

THATS IT..Penang Peach is said to be right there with Celadine as cool tolerant for the bay area. It is a beauty.

San Jose is fine for summer growing. There is a post here Andre of someone in Santa Clara who has Celadine growing in those brick planters fronting homes like you see all over California. From memory it was like 4' tall 4' wide. If you search for it here in archives ...

Stan, you are right about Santa Clara member. His name is Toshi. It is a beautiful Celadine tree. I was able to get a tour of his collection. So it does give me hope.

Everyone should have this one: Pink Diamond, aka Phet Chompoo, aka Hurricane Sunrise, aka Jack's Cup. It has it all--growth habit, bloom habit, fragrance, flower shape and mutability. One of Jungle Jack's best!

Jandey, just beautiful. From the picture, it is incredible bloom for a petite size plant. Makes the bloom very dramatic. Just curious what your soil/fertilizer is to get bloom on plant like yours. Our thoughts and prayers go out to your fellow Texans.

Desert Sunrise. Why, because it's the only one that's bloomed for me this year, well Celadine just started blooming. Celadine was my favorite last year because it was my only one to bloom last year. I have about 8 others with inflos tho currently... so I may change my mind. Here is Desert Sunrise
