What to do with this space?

This is my walk-through between my kitchen and diningroom(Butlers pantry). I would like to move the desk as I don't use my computer there anymore( in livingroom) & I find everyone just dumps everything on it & i'm forever trying to keep it organized( in a house of four...I seem to be the only one who is cleaning up the dumping zone & I dislike clutter, so it drives me crazy!!!) , especially since when we have company for dinner, they often have to walk through that area to get into kitchen. I was thinking I'd make rustic plumbing shelving for an open pantry on the desk side( move desk elsewhere) & maybe change the upper cupboard doors that are closer to the diningroom with glass fronts & display wine glasses etc. What are your thoughts? Don't mind the clutter...now you know what I mean about being the "dumping zone"...I know what I'm tackling this weekend...yet again!!!

With children and a hubby you know the dumping ground would just move. lol Every house has a dumping ground. I would love to have that space between my dinning and kitchen. If mine I would put floor to ceiling cabinets to store seasonal dish ware, table cloths, etc. Yes some glass front cabinets would look nice for stemware. I really don't see rustic in your home. I think the open plumbing shelves would even look more cluttered than what you have now and would become the new dumping ground. Plumbing belongs in the walls not on display.

Some ideas of what I was thinking of for this area to store not often used appliances, potatoes, onions in baskets, cookbooks, baking supplies etc. I don't use the desk that's there currently at all, so I'd rather find a more functioning use for this space now. Any other ideas and opinions?

Other rooms in the house to give you an idea of my style( or lack there of;)). The light fixture in the dining room is changing soon.

what about making that a sort of beverage center? you could put a drink fridge under a counter, with some cabinet storage for low-frequency stuff, and then the coffee maker on top, and then some shelving (open or closed or a mix) with glasses and coffee/tea mugs and whatever. could feel really fancy and help clear out some stuff that tends to hog space in the kitchen. and it would get enough use that that side, at least, would tend to stay free of dumped stuff. (then put some bins on the other side and let it go, heh.)

Functionthenlook- I like the look of the shelves in the second pic you posted. They won't look as chunky as they ones in my other rooms & it would allow an extra shelf or two for more storage space. I just would maybe make them a little deeper, so they function better.

Acm- I was thinking of putting in a mini-fridge on the side that has the cupboards currently & my storage shelving on the other side( where desk is). You can see the cupboard side from the front entrance, dining room and kitchen, so that's the side that I want to look prettier. The desk side you don't see as much until you start walking through that section or peak around the corner...if that makes sense;)

Just throwing this out there.....you have lovely curtains in your dining room, what about putting them in the butler's pantry area on the desk side so when it's messy you can close off the curtain. I hate looking at clutter too.

I think I would put doors over the whole thing and shelves inside of course....then you won't see the clutter inside and won't have to dust/clean it so often.

The current cabinets look much better than the plumbing shelving option. Don't sweat it. Clear it out prior to having guests and use it as either a beverage station, dessert station, or buffet. IMO, open shelves look much more cluttered than cabinets storing everything!

glass doors on upper cabinet for wine glasses would look nice. My d-in-law set her butler pantry up for a wine area with a counter top corkscrew and coffee bar with her kuerig and other coffee stuff. It looks good and keeps all of that stuff together and off the work surface in the kitchen
