I was watering my orchids last night when I saw a peculiar parasite in my vanda's roots. Any thoughts as to what it is and is there some sort of spray I can use to remove it? :)
A safe choice is water and ivory soap or dawn. Most of the other dish soap has degreasers which will kill plants. About half ounce to gallon of water. Kills bugs on contact. Even the toughest spider mites. I use soap for bugs most of the time. The exception is when I need a systemic for the bugs in question. Then I use Orthene. My newest line of thought on chemical CONTACT spray is why bother? It could be harmful to you and the plant. Spider mites need to change high price poisons that they don't work then get another one etc. And they are contact killers. Like soap. So just use soap. Safe and cheap and it works! Differently than poison, but I don't give a dam as long as they are dead! And not me...

Sheila, no he just hollowed out some of the moss and was sleeping there but sadly flew off when I awoke him. I felt bad but this is a really high traffic area for him to hang out!
Thanks Harvey! The pest in this situation was actually a little finch!! He flew off pretty quickly after realizing I was there.
