Nice plants you ordered. I always wanted a variegated hallii I think that variegation looks good on that type of leaf, though my regular hallii is S_L_O_W growing but I do like it a lot. I guess I will have to go check ebay What other Sans are you growing? It is fun to trade on this forum too.

I have patens, 4 different ehrenbergii's, grandes, masoniana, desertii, bella, ballyi, pinguicula, pfisteri, kirkii pulchra coppertone, kirkii silver blue, hallii, fischeri, tarzana, cylindrica and stuckyi.

Just picked up a ballyi and ordered a rorida.

Is it my imagination or are more sansevierias being listed on Ebay in recent weeks? Nice to see a wide variety of plants being offered. I'm guessing that sellers are getting their plants out in advance of cooler and colder weather -- for many of us-- and when it will be more difficult to ship plants safely and get them established.

I grow all my sansevierias indoors in front of bright windows. As I shift them around to make sure they get enough light in the fall and winter months, I'm wondering, do the variegated sansevierias require more, less or the same amount of light as their all-green counterparts? I know from other discussions that variegated sansevierias tend to be fussy, need more warmth, and have to be watered very carefully. Can anyone give me some general tips about their light requirements? Thanks!

I noticed a lot more sans on Ebay also. Maybe Hurricane Irma might have something to do with it too. As for variegation, I've noticed that it makes other plants more difficult to care for, like hindu rope and christmas cactus.

Variegated plants definitely need as much sun as possible to maintain the variegation otherwise they lose their vibrancy quickly. They use less water as well because they can't photosynthesize as quickly because of the lack of chlorophyll, which is contained in the green parts of the plant.

Thank you for explaining how to care for heavily variegated sansevierias, Vitorama. Your explanation makes it easy for me to remember – more light to maintain variegation, less water because the plant doesn't have enough green chlorophyll to photosynthesize quickly. And lots of people advise keeping them warm.

Blp123, it had not dawned on me what a threat Hurricane Irma might be to the many forum members and other sans growers living in Florida. Be careful; thoughts and prayers to you all. (I cannot wait for hurricane season to be over!)

Stuart R some photos of your plants? Time of year also has a lot to do with plants being offered. I know here in temperate NJ I put a lot of my Sans outside for the summer.......where they thrive and at this time of year most are putting a growth spurt including new pups. In a month I will have to bring everything inside and there won't be enough room, so now is the time of plenty!!

The only variegated sans I have is a Bantels Sensation. It put up 2 stalks during the summer ( outdoors)
