It is a nobile/softcane Dendrobium Hybrid. Name Unknown. Easily grown in some parts of California, perhaps difficult in other places.

There is no orchid called Dendobium nobilis. Your orchid has at least one species ancestor called Dendrobium nobile and that is important to bear in mind to find the culture needed for your new orchid.

Here is a link to show the variation in blooms for the group. You could be lucky and find the name for your Hybrid if it is a widely grown mericlone (copy) but looks a bit like it not good enough, the blooms must be exactly the same.

It's either wrong or there MIGHT be a cultivar called 'Nobilis' (stranger things have happened). But trying to say it IS that cv is absurd, without it being labeled as such.

It most likely is a mis-spelling. This looks a lot like Den. Baby Angel. Impossible to say of course, but it's close! Either way it's a pretty little thing!

There is a register of orchid hybrids kept in the UK. It covers all the various Genera of orchids and contains approx. 100,000 entries.

If you make a new hybrid, you can pay Ten English Pounds to register the name.

Anyone can search the register and if you put Nobilis in the grex name bit, you will find.

Thank you for sharing your interesting way of naming orchids. I do not think any of my orchids are qualified for any show. None of them has an ID. I was grocery shopping with a friend and she fell in love this this NoID orchid (baby angel) and I decided to buy it for her as a gift. We have a name now thanks to everyone who helped. Special thanks to Arthur for taking time typing the detailed explaination.

Orchid Societies in Australia and probably elsewhere too do not expect new growers to compete against long term "expert" growers, so show schedules have a Novice or New grower section.

A Name Unknown orchid could win Champion Orchid of a show because Orchid Judges look at the flowers, not name tags.

There is no qualification to put an orchid in a show. The finished floral display counts, especially if the show is held in a shopping centre. Keeping the Marketing Manager of the Centre and the viewing public happy is the main task.
