I think the gritty is heavier, if you have to move big pots. You can prune your tree any time you wish; but if you prune off too much of the new growth, you won't get many fruits. Also, post pictures, if you can; it helps us to see the problems/issues, e.g., if you prune so as to expose the trunk to sun, it can sunburn the trunk and ultimately kill the tree. If the trunk is exposed to the sun, you can paint it with a cheap white latex paint, diluted 1 to 1 with water.

Here are a couple of pictures. It's a little crooked in the pot now, but it's about 3 feet tall to the top of the branch. It's also a bears lime.

Bearss is a pretty good lime, especially if you leave the fruit on the tree until it begins to turn yellow. If you put it in the ground or into a bigger container, you can straight the trunk a bit to help with the balance.

That's what I was thinking. If I go to 5:1:1 or gritty I'd probably wash the roots off first anyway. How big of a pot would be good for the next stage? It looks to be about a 12 inch one now.

I would put it into a 16 inch pot. Trees in 511 have to be repotted in about 2 years because it decomposes while those in gritty can stay in it much longer.

Thanks for the advice. I repotted it in a 5:1:1 mix and so far it's looking great!
