How does this drain prevent overflow?

You state that it can work in sinks with no overflow drain. What if you leave the water running and it is closed?

    Hi Nancy,

    Thanks for writing.

Traditionally, the old school pop-up style drains are stocked by plumbing suppliers and hardware stores in two styles that a plumber or home owner must choose from:

    • one style of drain to fit sinks that have a built-in overflow, like a standard porcelain sink with a overflow drain hole located high up near the inside rim of the sink
    • a second style of drain to fit a sink that does not have a built in overflow, like a copper vessel sink that does not have an overflow hole
    • the difference is whether or not the drain flange that sits in the sink has slots cut in it or not and the stores have to stock both types of drains

Our product description, "Fits sinks WITH or WITHOUT an overflow" means that our single drain will fit both styles of sinks listed above because of our unique heavy duty lower body construction. CLICK HERE to see learn more about our overflow.

To be sure, if your sink does not have a built in overflow and our stopper is closed, the sink can overflow. If your sink does have an overflow built in and our stopper is closed, the sink's overflow function works perfectly with our drain.

Our drain will fit both types of sinks but the overflow is a function of the sink, not our drain.

    All the Best,

    The Bounty Brassware Team
