Well for my part I disassembled all of my gardens after the last season. We plan to travel a fair amount in the next few years and absentee gardeners don't have very prolific gardens. :-)

I think the lack of interest on boards like this has mostly to do with Face Book's popularity. People have switched to that platform for communicating and sharing methinks.

I'd guess some traffic has been lost to the horror of Facebook.

These kind of forums are going the way of bookstores and video rentals. With the amount of information available on the internet, the educational-based forums are turning into social sites - pretty much exactly what Facebook is. There is also the typical graying of the hobby gardeners and the face of the new urban farmer is typically younger. Different focus; different generation.

Too bad, really. Facebook provides a terrible venue as information repository. Old style vBulletin and phpBB forums are vastly superior in that regard.

Also, the "search" feature. If you want find out about pomegranate growing, it's likely that there's already a good thread on it.

Ain't it sad? Facebook is really no good unless you want to scroll for a few hours. How do we get people to come here? I really miss this group.

I miss it too. FB has ruined most of my favorite sites that used to be hopping.

i went on that urban gardening site, only to end up deleting it. The young people on that site are not very nice. Just don't need the attitude, it should be fun not agony and drama

Then what we should do is create our own. Somebody must know how to blog. I'd love for Arizona gardening forums to be like it was years ago. I met many nice people, some of them in person. We were interested in hot ole Arizona.. and what we could coax to grow here. We loved to visit lowes and home depot and the nurseries and see the pretty plants from California before they had time to look around and make an assessment of Arizona!!!!!! We have lived in our home for sixty years and just last year the house next door was sold to somebody who rents it out. 4 renters in a year! I sure wish we had bought that house. We'd have to be renting it out but we could be very very selective. Nobody with a tow truck, an auto detailing business, a used car lot or who does auto mechanics allowed!!!! I did learn that green hopseed bushes will grow so tall that when the outdoor flood lights are left on all night the brightness is very diminished due to these wonderful bushes. Don't ever cut the tops of them, only the sides, or they won't grow to 15 plus feet tall. In the last three months I have purchased 15 green hopseed bushes. Home depot only has the purple. The green ones came from Whitfields and those bushes are much nicer and growing well. The purple ones seem kinda puny. well lets make our own gardening forum and welcome everybody who misses us when we wuz like we wuz. JoAnn bjbaughman37@gmail.com
