My little catts begin to blossom

Hello everyone:

About a year
half ago, I bought 4 small cattleyas at Home Depot, these are different and had no names. Now they started to bloom and I wanted to identify them, this is the first one.

The other comes with 5 flowers

The problem is that you do not know whether they are mericlones (copies) or seedlings (raised from orchid seeds). Then there are the numbers. Tens of thousands of registered "cattleya" hybrids in the database kept in England.

So, your only chance is that your orchid is a widely distributed copy and you or someone might spot the image on google.

Possibly related to Rlc. Toshie Aoki 'Pizazz'

    I agree with you.

If you look up the RHS Database to see how many registered Hybrids have been made using Toshie Aoki as a parent, the number is 203. So this makes the problem more difficult.

But not to worry, as SM said it is a nice orchid.

Agree with ArthurM, a definite Toshi Aoki relative, the color is a little washed out, but a keeper none the less

Beautiful flower! My first thought was Blc Dora Louise Capen, which is a widely cloned offspring of Toshi aOki. .here is Orchid Limited's photo.

i had this a clone of this hybrid many years ago and loved it, gorgeous lip on them.

Beautiful! I was reading that the BLC hybrids are very beautiful. I bought babies and now they started to bloom, very different from the photo that showed the purchase tag. Here the second one that carries 5 flowers and will be a surprise too. Greetings.

Hello everyone, here I put the photo of this other baby. I still have 3 to flourish

Unusual shape and splashes on those petals. Having both purple and white like the lip, it makes me think of a peloric bloom. Yet the petals don't have the shape of the lip. I think someone might recognize the bloom, seems I've seen it often in the past.

Hello Sheila, I searched the internet and the most similar I found was this but as you see, mine has a spike of 5 flowers and this seems to come out of sheath. Regards

You must have the most gorgeous tree trunk in the neighborhood! You got some really amazing looking cattleyas. I've been taking a look at orchids on a few mail order sites and some of the cattleyas they offer isn't nearly as colorful as those blooms. Congrats on blooming them!

Kvetch, join your local Orchid Society. Venders come to meeting and sell unusual orchids or orchids which you won't find online.

Attend a Orchid Show in your area. Not sure where you live but you can Google Orchid Shows and look for them in your area. Fantastic plants you rarely see anywhere and so much cheaper than anything you buy online.

Thanks Jane! Harvey suggested the same thing which reminded me that I had planned to add to my orchid collection through the orchid societies and not buy them online or in stores. But I get too excited when I see them and forget. I'll definitely remember the next time I see orchids

Thanks Kvetch, I have only been buying the babies that in Home Depot take out, some 6 dollars and others 12, they took an year and a half to bloom and I still have 3 that have not done so. I have also bought some, which are in other trees, not very pretty but very fragrant. I have had more healthy plants with which I buy babies. Greetings.
