Mixing Interior Door Styles

What are your thoughts on mixing interior door styles? We are building a new home - modern farmhouse / craftsman style. In our main hallway, we will be having wainscotting (see attached photo). Down that hallway is a double door linen closet, 3 bedroom doors and a bathroom door. I was wanting to do the 1 panel doors (see attached photo) for the entry doors and the 2 panel doors (see attached photo) for the linen closet doors and all the closet doors in the house. All of the 1 panel doors will be single doors. The 2 panel doors are double doors for the closet. Thoughts or suggestions? Thanks for your help!!!

There is a more correct way to use different doors to indicate "importance" in a hierarchical sense. The 1830s Greek Revival houses I lived in had more detailed doors on the rooms and less detailed on any small closets or dressing alcove or such. Very large ones even had doors that got simpler the higher the floor.

So it's not absolutely wrong, the idea has precedence. But the way you want to do it is backwards. The simpler doors should be on the closets and the more detailed as the room doors.

I agree. And with the wainscotting, I would choose the first one.

one only if you use 2 defferent ones it will look like they were out of stock and you had to settle with whatever they had left. The first one will be it :) have mirrors on the closet door if you like a full mirror is a must .

With wainscoting use the single panel door for all. Clean and simple is best.

i'm all for palimpsest's precedence. i live in an 1870 house and indeed, 'public' rooms have elaborate moldings, kitchen and back hall has plain picture rail. the higher the floor, the lower the skirting boards, the plainer the casings, and doors go from lovely to basic.

but all that aside, you are going to run into difficulty with the 2 panel doors and your wainscoting, the height of the wainscoting has to make a good look with the height of the panel.

for this reason, i'd do all plain, single panel doors.

and i hope your hallway is wider than the one in your inspiration photo. i'd have all of that removed the day i moved in to make more visual space, thats really too jammed in looking.
