I recently moved to Houston, and have no experience growing figs. We bought two varieties (a Celeste and a Brown Turkey) at a local nursery and planted them last fall. The Celeste has set (and dropped) fruit a couple times since then. Until now, the Brown Turkey showed no inclination to set any fruit, although the tree is doing well. Just today, I noticed a good number of figs developing on one branch - I was excited, until I noticed that this was the only branch that had fruit, and it was a young branch that had grown this year from low on the trunk. Is my fruit likely to be from the rootstock and not from the actual Brown Turkey? I can't readily discern a graft union on the tree, but I'm not sure what I'd be looking for - is it less obvious on figs than on citrus and apples? If it is from the rootstock, I guess I should cut that branch to allow more energy to go to the main tree...
