From what I have been told he crewed a B-24 Bomber in the 8th Air Force which helped liberate Europe. I also understood his aircraft was shot down on a mission over Germany. My family was on the other side back then and my dad's childhood home was destroyed in the Hamburg firestorms. But make no doubt we know that's what it took to be liberated from evil. My grandfather until the day he died said the Americans saved us first from ourselves and then from the Soviets.

History is not taught like it used to be. Many may not know how hard fought the strategic bombing campaign was... Roughly 1 in 7 men in the 8th Air Force were killed or wounded from 1942 to 45. I think a B-24 had a 12 man crew so statistically speaking nearly two men from every crew were killed or wounded.

He became a POW at Stalag 17B in Austria and was freed later by General Pattons brigade..

So glad I am obsessed with Plumeria which leads me to this forum. Thank you Bud for your selfless service. As a Vietnamese immigrant escaped from Communist Vietnamese as one the Boat People in late 70s early 80s, I am now living the American Dream. I continue to remind myself and my circle of influence about Freedom and the preciousness of it. I am guilty of enjoying it and sometimes take it for granted as Freedom is just normal life here in the USA but so many people have sacrificed and still do. I love this country. So thank you Bud! Thank you Laura for sharing.

Hi Tony!!

Its sad to see the season ending, but it just makes me more excited for the new season to begin!! ;-). I just finished placing my trees in their resting areas, but i will be ready to bring them back out as soon as I can.

Before we know it, Spring will be here and our gardens will be full of new and exciting blooms!! I can't wait!!
