Jade Bonsai - surving winter

Hi, I have had a jade bonsai for about 5 years - its been outside all summer and its looking great right now, but winter is coming and I know I need to bring it inside. Every year this seems to be a disaster - it loses some or all its leaves - and spends the entire summer trying to recover. Bit of a miserable existence for it and I'm wondering if there is a better way? All the past locations were not great for light, but not terrible.

So this year I'm thinking of bringing it into the office - I have a large south facing window with no obstructions. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I'm thinking about getting a small moisture meter to make sure I get the watering right - I feel like i'm always guessing.

Thanks,
