Need Help With Paint Color Please

last modified: 8 years ago

We recently had new flooring installed (hardwood) and I am in desperate need of help deciding on paint. The color I have on my walls in the living room I can't find anymore. I don't know for sure what it is. We have good light in the living room but not so much in the dining room. Suggestions is appreciated.

What are the fabric sample for?

We have ordered new living room furniture. The far left fabric is for pillows, middle is the sofa and the one on the right is the chair fabric.

    Gray wisp perhaps

I have never been a fan of the grays. This does look pretty though.

Is that the LR with light beige carpeting?

When you examined fabrics, did any include an accent color that you liked?

I didn't know you could bring home a paint fan! The dining room was a match gone wrong. It ended up being doubled what I believed to be in the living room and it's ugly. Then I took the paint back yesterday I believe and they darkened it at 25% which didn't work either. I like the golden tan color in the material.

Forgot to answer that the carpet is a light beige but we will be changing that out in a year or so.

Years ago, my Sherwin Williams store lent it out..... or at least the smaller ones, which could lead you to a match as a starting direction....

So at later time, how many rooms will have identical flooring? you said wood right...?

Four rooms are the same but we will put carpet back in the living room. At least I believe so at this time.

I would only have pillows in the fabric on the right in the small geometric Greek key pattern and not use that paisley on the left...do a chair in the lighter color that is the background of the geometric fabric maybe a herringbone.....than you can think about adding color with the addition of a couple more pillows that is a lighter linen/cotton type fabric...to much heavy upholstery fabric..that paisley is way out of style and does not complement the more updated geometric Greek key fabric.....so sorry want to be honest..you are so close to such a nice combination...just ditch the paisley

I think Comfort Gray would be lovelyCoventry gray would be lovely on the walls...

Here is a light herringbone upholstery that would be nice on a chair...

I do like the pattern. Unfortunately the pillow fabric is already ordered. I can always find different pillows though.

You can purchase a paint fan at Sherwin Williams And Benjamin Moore about $15...sometimes if you ask they will just give one to you:)

Also, paint companies offer a couple paint colors that can coordinate -- possible for your room adjoining LR.

I just did the color consult today with Sherwin Williams and found it extremely helpful. It was I think $95 and I got a $50 gift card. Worth it to have someone come to my house with a fan deck and listen to me hem and haw. We'll see how the samples come out but I'm feeling better about this than the last 4 grey I have tried.

I love the samples that you have put together Home Enteriors With Ease! Very pretty! I did see online that Sherwin Williams does have someone that will come out for a fee but helps match you up with paint colors. I have a small fortune in paint samples that I need to get rid of now....sad to say. Good luck to you mnmamax3! Everdebz.....the lighting is so different in my living room than dining room/kitchen. My neighbor built some type of storage building in front of my kitchen window and blocked my light coming in from there. I do have my sliding doors from the dining room but not much light comes in that way either.

I just checked and Sherwin Williams doesn't offer the color consultation in my state....uggh.

Remember when looking at paint colors on a sample fan My advice is to find a color you like and go up one or even two lighter on same sample fan....most pick a much to dark of a color for there space...you want it to complement but not be the focal point!

You are so right. I can't seem to find the middle of the road. I have gone in both directions ...lighter and darker. I am having trouble finding the middle ground. People tell me it's just paint which it is but I don't have the resources to repaint. My husband is disabled so he isn't able to really help much so I don't want to keep redoing because I can't find the right color and be happy with it.

Here are some tried and true neutral colors. These are Sherwin Williams best

    These are Benjamin Moore

Here is Coventry gray example on walls

Comfort and Coventry Gray are my top two choices right now for a similar but darker tan sofa (at Home Interiors' suggestion--I highly recommend listening to her. She's got a good eye for just the right shades!). They are both lovely, lovely colors. If you haven't done sample boards, I'd suggest starting there with your top choices--it's making me a lot less stressed about the whole process and the thought of having to redo a bad color.

Top to bottom here is coventry gray, comfort gray, and Benjamin Moore's Moon Shadow, in low, artificial light.

Thank you so much for the wonderful thoughts and ideas. The mock ups give me a new perspective which I desperately needed. I will look more into grays and who knows....I just might learn to like them.
