For the sitting tools, take a chair and a yardstick out there.

1. Sit in the chair and see how far the center of the bed is, using the yardstick to measure your reach.
2. Add 6 inches to account for arm length differences.
3. Buy tools that length

For the standing tools, do the same, but use a longer pole and measure the pole ... and remember that short people can use long handled tools by grabbing nearer the working end. Tall people have to bend to use too-short tools and that makes back problems worse.

That was really useful.

My reach to reach the center of the bed from the deepest point of the curved wall is 30" - 31". The outcome is that the short spade and garden forks will work but a rake will need to be cut down in length.

An oscillating hoe (stirrup hoe) is my favorite tool for weeding standing up. It makes fast work of small weeds.

I watched a video on it. Seems great, I like the idea of cutting off the weeds instead of digging them up :-)

Several yars ago one of our Dollar stores had children's gardening tools with wooden handles and metal "working parts". The set included a shovel, rake, and hoe. They are great to use. They are substantial enough but light weight. The little rakes are especially nice for pulling debris from under plants. The shovels make about 4" holes. Using the backs of the hoes, I can smooth mulch in the beds. I have really enjoyed these miniature tools.
