I'm in zone 9, not sure that matters here. So, I thought to protect everything, except my firespikes. It completely slipped my mind. After Irma, my firespike bushes were on the ground, bent over (not broken). So I used wooden stakes to hold them up again. They are still healthy, luckily. And already re-growing the flowers they've lost in the wind. How long should I keep them staked until they can stand on their own? What else can I do to make sure they become sturdy again?
