Newbie question: Adenium leaves yellow

I watered my adeniums about 5-6 days before going on a trip for 5 days. When I came home, I noticed 2 of the adeniums with yellowing leaves and brown leaf tips. One was much less yellow, I can't find a picture of the second one but I have the one with more yellowing. I was keeping them on the drier side since the medium its in doesn't drain as quickly as I'd like (it was in mid bloom when I got them and did not re-pot right away).

Is this because it was too dry? I watered it the day after I got back and the leaves still appear to be yellowing.

Where have you been keeping them, Lily?

It could be possible that with lower light levels and cooler temps., that it is just shutting down. They usually start dropping them from the lower area and up to top.

If there was a change that you made prior to going away as to where you keep them may also have effected them.

Just guessing here.

I'm having the same issue with my little baby. it doesn't get full sun and the base is firmand full from watering. is this a natural cycle or am I doing something wrong?

Matt,

Where do you keep them, inside, outside (Looks as though they are)? Good draining soil w hole in bottom of pot? Are they wet from watering or rainfall? If they stay wet and do not have a period of drying back, this is not good.

ya outside. soil probably not well draining enough. yes there is a hole in the pot. I'm gonna not water it for a while and see if that helps. my guess is I was watering it too much. if all the leaves fall off will they return in the coming months or will it stay dormant and leafless until next spring?

Let it dry back and give it as much light as you can during this time. It may not lose all the leaves. They are pretty resilient. Many will retain their leaves all winter and some may not. Keep on the dry side, but give a little water to keep the feeder roots alive.

Keep an eye on them. Do not hesitate to ask questions and let us know of your experiences and trials.

Matt,

I live just South of Ft. Worth.

The cooler weather we had a few weeks ago, with lows in the lower 60's has affected everyone's plants. And then we went back to 99 degrees the next week.

Looks like we're in for rain and cooler weather again next week.

Hi Rick,

I realized I never submitted my response to you. Sorry about that.

I keep them on an east facing window sill that gets bright direct light from sunrise to around noon, then bright indirect light for the rest of the day. It is kept indoors as my terrace is quite windy. It's actually gotten a lot better since I posted. I suspect that you are actually right about what had happened with the temperature drop. I also remembered that on a couple of colder days I had left the windows open to air out our place and they were quite close to that window.

Lily, some of my plants have yellow leaves too.

I hope it pass and the plants give you all new fresh set of leaves.
