Hi, we are in the beginning stages of planning our kitchen remodel and need some help with the lighting layout. We have the layout of the cabinets done, but I'll be doing the ceiling first, so need to have an idea of where the lighting should go.

The rectangle next to the island is our kitchen/dining table. We may turn it 90 degrees from where it is in the picture.

We'd like to have some pendant/flush mount lights over the island, table, and sink. I'm stuck on where to put the recessed lights in the rest of the kitchen. Note, we have no upper cabinets planned.

I've read conflicting advice on what kind of lights to put over the counters and how to space them. I'm thinking 6"cans 18-24" from the wall over the counters, then 4' apart from each other. Should I just make an evenly spaced grid of lights, or try to arrange them in the center of the walkways around the island?
