Should I have Two sets of Fall Figs ??

I have a Hardy Everbearing Fig (which I think is the same as Brown Turkey) in Zone 7. Due to freezing back to the ground, this is the first year I have pulled the tree through the winter to get a second year growth. I have never had figs off the tree before. I had no Spring/Summer figs and had given up for this year, but about a month ago, I got three fall figs so I was pulling for them to ripen before the first frost. They are now about golf ball sized. Yesterday, I was checking them out and I saw TONS of tiny buds starting near the base of this year's leaves. They are slightly smaller than a pencil eraser and it is late Sep already. I can't imagine why this happened and I haven't seen anyone else post about two separate Fall crops of figs. Since I have never had fruit before and I struggle just to keep the tree alive through the winter, can someone with more experience tell me what is going on and what causes it. Any advice is welcome.
