Thank you for the comment.It is a living room.Yes would like to have some storage and/or day bed.haven't decided the colors yet.this staircase opposite the main door.if you go past the stairs you will see two entries one to the kitchen on the left and one to the store room on the right.I hope this will help.Thanks again

you need a good carpenter. Stick to light color wood. Replace the railing with a modern one. Below the staircase is an area that can be used for storage. However, if the railing is very decorative you can just leave the stairs as they are. The railing can do the job.

The staircase looks fine and does not need any construction or railing change. Nor would I recommend built-in storage unless desperately needed. What will really help here is paint, furniture, rugs, art, lighting, and flowers.

I like the railing, as well. I can't tell what the stairs are made of but, if practical, decorative tiles on the risers would look well. The area under the stairs is quite low for storage to look decorative, unless a single shelf is set into the wall as shown above. If storage is not for decorative items, I suggest configuring a closed cupboard, so that your proposed daybed will receive better focus.

You got a lot of white so its a great starting point to make it more interesting! You could do some really interesting details with skirt boats / trim, treads on the sides of the stringers and on the underside of the upper run. You could ad a light wood handrail to the top of your current banister and leave the current design. So many possibilities in this space...

Thank you for the comments.I like the railing but we cant change it because if we change it we have to change the tiles which I do not want.The shape under the stairs is very strange.Really difficult fit anything under it.May be the best way is just close it with a partition.What do you all think? It depends, I think, on whether you place seating against that wall corner, in which place a clean line is better than a gap. If the corner left wall is left more open, then something like a stack of basketry, or a large piece of pottery, or statuary placed in the gap might provide good visual interest without over asserting itself.
