Help with Computer/Sitting Room

Excuse the clutter. I have sold my piano so nothing is staying in this 11x14 room except the Secretary. Any help please for design? We would want in updated computer desk and maybe a chair and rug.

No 9-5 work. Only occasionally on computer. I'm more interested in wall color, chair design and rug. I'll probably put the Secretary where the Piano is now.

Are you keeping your window treatments?

I would like to but I'm open to doing something different.

I'm attaching three pictures with more of a traditional secretary desk. Do one of them spike your interest?

My initial vision is a soft green color wall with a gray undertone, keep the drapes and find a rug that is cream in background and has reds, greens, browns and yellows in a traditional pattern.

I would love a writing desk in this room since it isn't for a true working office. Especially since you are keeping the secretary. I will post some inspirational photos. Bbl

I like those color ideas. I'm attaching a picture of the desk we have now that my husband uses. He's willing to shop for another I'm happy to say. I would like to have the desk come down in front to cover all the wires and the computer tower ect. Any ideas of a comfy chair and foot stool?

Well, you just added you want a modesty panel, so the writing desk won't work, but it seems this room is too small for a secretary, man's desk and your desk? Perhaps we need more definition here. I was thinking the secretary could act as one writing surface and the writing desk for another. But to add yet another functional desk? Too much. Something has to go.

You might be able to put his desk in the right corner, slide the secretary down toward the window wall and then put a desk for you in the front area. Not sure where the entry to the room is? Could you do a rough sketch of the room noting doors and windows. That would help, and which wall is 11 and which wall is 14. The secretary is very pretty but all the woods right now are dark. Whatever you choose I would look for a piece that is lighter, perhaps a Champagne gold.

This one would be perfect if it would fit.

Yes Flo. I only need a desk for my husband. The secretary was my dear Mother's so I want to keep it but I don't use it. I could possibly find another location for it. So...bottom line I only need one desk and a chair for him and then chair and stool for me, rug etc. Do your magic.

This is a tricky space to do a reasonable working desk, a chair and a reading chair and the secretary. You need a 4'push back for a desk chair, about 3'x6 desk and I am guessing the secretary is around 40x22d??

What kind of budget are you thinking about? There are some nice desk wall units you could get that would help in the "space" utilization, but not sure what you want to spend?

You could put a long surface on the wall you face when you enter the room and make that the desk and storage wall. Then the Secretary goes where the piano was. If the desk space was 24" deep you could put two small scale chairs in front of it facing each other for a seating area. Just depends on how you want to utilize the room. We could design that wall in any way that would work for you. Here is a rough sketch of your room (I assumed the 14' was from the entry to the far wall?) Each square is 1 sq. ft.

That looks great. We don't need the desk area to be that large. That gives me an idea just to put the desk on the long wall but not all the way across. Then I could put a chair and ottoman at the window. I may have room to put the secretary on the old piano wall. Thanks Flo.

You are welcome. You should have room where the piano was because the piano is generally 4.5 long and secretary desks are usually around 40" so that should work. Here is a unit that you could just get the center part or something like it and Hooker is a good quality brand.

This is a modular unit and you could get just the pieces you want or need.

You could use the "concept" and do it for less at Office Depot or such as well if you want to keep the cost lower.

I had that exact same secretary. So pretty!
