I have heard Whale's tale. I think you are right. It looks like a stem cutting and will root if it didn't already and produce new growth (pups). They will not look the same until they grow much larger with time.

I have a nice Masoniana green type given to me by Norma. Makes it all the more special. Roots on them can be way out of proportion with the above foliage. I though I was growing sweet potatoes.

I remember we had a fun contest here on who can grow the widest leaves with me showing off some of my futura with 3" wide then Chris came in with one of his masoiana with a 6" leaf. Then he was nice enough to give me one.

Nice to know about the pups! Was really excited to find the pups beneath the soilsurface, I know these grow very slow aswell, I'm glad I got such a well rooted cutting without knowing it.

EB88, you scored well on the cutting. Keep us informed on your progress, especially pics of the pups when they get up and growing.

Stush, I have some sans from Norma and I consider them very special. I haven't heard if she's still with us or not, I hope so. I have masoniana from a few different sources but don't think Norma was one of them. I get your 'sweet potato' comment, the rhizomes can be gigantic.

Hey Barb, I'm glad your masoniana is doing well. I had massive amount of tree limbs and debris down from my 40+ live oaks on my property, still cleaning the mess up. No damage to the house tho, so I'm thankful for that. Plants outside got covered with twigs, leaves and such from the trees, it's been a job to rake it all away from the plants. Thanks for the note!

I hate those Live Oak trees. Leaves are like plastic and very hard and hard to recycle into mulch. Also when I was down Clearwater, I was told there are laws protecting the Live Oaks and homeowners are not allowed to cut down bad trees by their houses. Seems they are looking forward to more damage when storms arrive. Don't know it true?

Stush, most cities around me do have laws about oaks and other hardwood trees. You can cut down the native palms that grow from seeds like weeds, but established oaks and the like are somewhat protected in that you have to ask about cutting them down. I'm sure if you have a good reason it'd be no problem, like roots affecting the foundation of your house or too close to the house during storms. Altho oaks are beautiful and provide shade, they're 'dirty' trees with tons of leaves, twigs, litter and limbs on streets, driveways and vehicles.

Barb, interesting that you had trees blown down all the way up there in Georgia. By the way, my Anth clarinervium is doing very well. Thought I had some seeds coming but they didn't develop.

I'm glad to hear that your anthurium likes it down there in Fla. I got mine in Ft Lauderdale in the 80s, have had it ever since. That storm was unbelievable, so sad for so many. And now those wildfires out west. Mother nature's been having a wild time this year.

Barb, really cool that your anth is so old, I love plants with history. I have philodendron King of Spades which I found in an obscure nursery along Hwy 90 in Louisiana in 1979 when passing through there. My philo erubescens and a few others are almost that old.

Yes, nature is definitely on a rampage nation-wide, hard to believe that almost 40 people have succumbed to the fires in Calif. I don't know how that happens given all the warnings by media and emergency personnel. but obviously it's happening far too often.
