My neighbor has one that volunteered in their yard probably from a plant a couple houses up the street a few years ago. Last year I must have pulled 300 seedlings, no exaggeration. They look like Little Bluestem when small and that made it frustrating because I'm trying to grow LBS. I didn't have trouble pulling them but I did get tired of seeing them come up all summer. Oddly, this year I only pulled about 5. Its a nuisance grass IMO and too big for many yards. I wish I'd known, I would have sprayed herbicide over the fence onto the plant next door while it was small if I knew what it would do (unkempt garden if you get my drift). I wish they'd trim it down in winter but they leave it and the new comes up in the old dead grass. Its ugly.

Mine is beautiful, but if seed sets again, it's coming out. And yes, in mid summer I found several seedlings--good sized by then--tucked up against several Little Bluestem plants in a mass planting. I had to pry them up with a spading fork to get them out. Didn't seem to hurt the bluestems, but I needed help to do it--one to pry and one to pull.

I've got sandy soil so that makes pulling easier. If you cut it down in early winter before the plumes shatter and the seeds start blowing, you will probably eliminate the problem. It will produce seed every year unless it doesn't bloom which is the whole point, ornamentally speaking.

Well, as I said it bloomed for many years with no seedlings ever until last winter when we had no winter. I'm thinking of replacing it with one of the new Big Bluestems if I can find the one I want.
