Would this work, but customize the length that light is sticking out. I googled large barn lights under houzz.com. Also googled outside of Houzz under Large Barn Lighting and got a company that does custom called Cocoweb.....try googling large barn lights and see what you get. Cocoweb has a large variety of 10" , 20" etc barn lights sticking out from base......good luck.

Plug the holes, (a good carpenter, you will not see them), or just cut a cross grain board of the same wood, and nail it all the way across, and have the wiring boxes moved to the lower side of the floor/ceiling. So, you may find that a pendant is easier to clean, than a sconce might be? Great space! You are going to really enjoy this when done. If you find the right design, in the wrong shade or color or tone, there are ways to alter it too.

Can't some pendants just hang sideways?

Maybe something like this if you can hang it sideways. You may be able to get a bolt or some other kind of hardware to get it out 6".
