I am in SW Florida, where it's almost always warm, but I repot Sans throughout the year as needed. Since you're in zone 8, I would think it would be fine to repot it now and let it settle throughout October.

A few of my sans have pupped so much by now that I am not only repotting but am dividing. It can't be helped. However we still have about 5 weeks of fall left (and you probably have more) so it shouldn't be a problem if I watch the watering. I've done it this late before. Not often, but a few times. No problems were encountered with the normal Sans varieties. I'd probably figure out something else to do with the slow growing Sans varieties such as Bantel's Sensation, or Golden Hahnii. Their growth rate, which is low anyway, slows down to a crawl over winter, and you might risk rot with the broken roots/Rhizomes that come with any repotting...........Maryl

Here is a picture of the plant. I don't think I will find rot. The middle of the plant was much more crowded before I found the shriveled completely crispy leaves through out the inside of the plant. I think it got root bound and she did not realize she had to water it more often. She now wants to divide it. Would it be best to let the roots sit out a few days after division to harden up, or is it ok to just divide and plant. Is it correct not to water for a week or so? My biggest fear is the plant will just flop over in it's new home. I really appreciate the help guys.

Mary, I am in fall here now. Because of that I thought I would let the plant relax a week after repotting and then put it under grow lights at least for a while. The pic above shows the plant. The leaves are a little wider and shorter than the normal Sans, I assumed it was a normal variety grown in a fairly dark house. Would you agree. It really is a very attractive plant though. I know it is a trifaciata, but that is it. An ideas on a variety?? Robin, thank you, I should put a sign on the pot that says let it settle throughout October. I am constantly peeking down where the stems meet the soil worrying the plants will sink deeper than they should. Thank you all. A happy big sister makes a happy little sister. I am afraid of her when she gets mad. lol.

When I repot, I always wash off all the old compacted soil from around the roots, but the bad thing is, after doing this the plant WILL flop over all over the place.
