can you take photos from other angles, and maybe one from further back, so that we can see more of the room?

The light is in the center of the room. the room is 18 x 24

Also, I forgot to say that the ceilings are 10'

Dytecture I actually saw that light last week and I'm considering something along those lines for my kitchen where I also have a lighting problem. I'm really afraid if I change the light to anything much smaller than what I have now It will just get lost in the room

I would take it down. It looks out of place and hanging in limbo. Recessed lighting would be better.

Maybe its the placement of the furniture that is wrong. Can you take a picture of the whole space? I see that the couch is not facing the tv. A better picture would really help.

I would concentrate on adding more table and floor lamps so that the chandelier isn't the only source of light. You need a few end tables for lamps and some floor lamps especially for reading. Much better than glaring overhead lighting.

Thanks leelee. I agree but i just don't know where Im going to put more tables or lamps without the room looking cluttered. but what to do about the light? Im open to a semi flush mount fixture thats not a chandelier, but I don't want something thats "olde world" looking but thats all Ive been able to find of that style. I would like something "transitional". Thanks for your help.

You might have to rearrange some furniture. Possibly a sofa table with two lamps? Your pictures are pretty dark so it's hard to see. I did notice that you don't have a fixture over your dining table. Is this more transitional?

leelee i posted some pictures that show the room in a better light. Its a large room and unfortunately more overhead lighting is not an option unless i tear out the ceiling to run the wire. There just isnt any way to access above the ceiling. i have four chairs and a 108" sofa.

How about floor lamps? Ha, I see one small table with a lamp. Do you have space behind the sofa for a console type table? Where do people set drinks? I don't see any coffee table. There are tables that are only about 8" wide that are meant to go next to a chair arm

I think your furniture placement is at fault, as noted above , no end tables to put large lamps , you need task lighting, a large chandelier is not the solution, it confuses the room's usage. I think track lighting to redirect different sources of lights could be an option, How about switching the sofa to where the chairs are add 2 end tables with larger lamps than the one showing , it would help if we had a floor plan, we need more pics.

Thanks everyone. I've been looking for floor lamps and tables too. I didn't want to put the sofa in front of the windows because it would mean that all the chairs would be on the same side of the room as the dining room table.

Leelee, that 8" wide table would be great if 1, i didn't have grandkids that could (and would) easily knock over any thing on it or 2, if I had plugs in the floor. As it is, even if I did use a table like that I would have to snake an extension cord under the sofa to reach the nearest wall and then it would be in the path of one of the access ways. That would have been perfect though. I think the consensus is that I need to give up on lighting from overhead and just get some more lamps.

Have you considered wall lighting to help address this issue? They do make plug in swing-arm lamps if you are not able to hard wire them in.
